Evisu Denim

Founded in Osaka in 1991 by Hidehiko Yamane and Mikiharu Tsujita, who went on to found Fullcount, Evisu is one of the denim makers grouped as the Osaka Five, and it takes its name from Ebisu, the Japanese god of prosperity. In its early days, the company made about 14 pairs of jeans a day, and Yamane hand-painted the seagull arcuate on each pair himself. The brand is known for Japanese selvedge denim, custom distressing, and the painted seagull, which remains its signature mark.
