About Boncoura

Founded in 2011 by Hisashi Morishima, Boncoura takes its name from the French “bon courage” and the Japanese “bonkura,” a fond term for someone stubbornly devoted to a passion. Before his first collection, Morishima worked with Japanese mills to develop original fabrics inspired by vintage denim of the 1950s and 1960s. The family-run brand makes its garments in Japan, overseeing its denim from cotton blending through spinning and indigo dyeing, and weaving it on old-style power looms built to its own specifications.
